Annual Meeting of Gujarati Samaj

Annual Meeting of Gujarati Samaj was held at the Travel Lodge on Saturday, December 8, 2007.

More than 50 members attended the meeting.

Following resolutions were passed:


Accounts: Details of accounts were presented and unanimously accepted ending balance is Nearly $ 50,000.00! This is more than doubled in past two years.


Fixed deposit: It was resolved that $ 35,000 of the funds will be deposited in fixed deposit and all the money collected for Life Membership and the interest of this fund will be kept in Fixed deposit only. No committee may use any of these funds without majority permission from General Membership.


Shardaben Bhakta Scholarship Fund: Kenny Bhakta & Family have pledged $ 10,000 per year for next five years for scholarship to be given to deserving Asian Indian Female student. It was resolved to accept the funds and appealed to more members to contribute to the worthy cause.

Resolved that Dr. Vijay Mehta will administer this scholarship funds.

Nilesh Patel of Belton contributed $ 500 to the Scholarship funds.


Gujarati Samaj Membership: Family membership will include husband - wife and unmarried children living to gather or going to college.

Married children and Children independently living in the area must pay separate membership. Dependent senior citizen will be considered part of the family.


Life Membership: It was unanimously voted to increase the Life Membership to $ 1500 from current rate of $ 1,000. Anyone becoming a Life Member before January 1, 2008 can still become Life Member at $ 1,000.


Guests: Gujarati Samaj will extend the membership privilege to all our function to visiting guests. Guests were defined as anyone living more than 35 mile radius from Temple, Waco, Killeeen.


Garba: Gujarati Samaj will hold more Garaba 4-5 every season. In case of no sponsor is forthcoming for a garba we shall charge $5 per person to cover the cost of rent and food.


Elections: Manish Kanji from Temple, Kal Patel from Temple and Kirit Patel of Waco finished their two year term in the committee. Samaj members thanked the past committee for doing an outstanding job over past two years.

They were replaced by Mike Bhakta, Raju Patel (La Quinta) and Maheshbhai (Sam) Patel from Waco by unanimous vote.
